Ask your county commissioner to step up their action on global warming. Sarasota has already begun to take a leadership role in sustainability, but is extremely vulnerable to the impacts of global warming and must amplify its efforts to meet this significant challenge.
Ask your commissioners to:

Increase the urgency with which the county is addressing global warming

Sign the US Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement

Act on the county’s recent membership in ICLEI-Governments for Sustainability and develop a Climate Action Plan for Sarasota County with specific greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

Specify how the county will meet its commitment to the 2030 Challenge for Carbon Neutrality
-
Strengthen the sustainability department and establish a citizens’ advisory board specific to the issue

Work to engage other municipalities in climate protection efforts across the county and the region.
