• Upgrade your fuel efficiency! Is it time to purchase a vehicle? Then be sure to choose the most fuel-efficient vehicle possible—this is the most important personal choice you can make when it comes to protecting the climate! Compare fuel economy of possible options before you start shopping and look for new technologies like hybrid engines.

  • EPA’s Green Vehicle Guide: U.S. EPA produces this guide to help choose the cleanest and most fuel-efficient vehicle that meets your needs.
  • Consider the transportation impact of your purchases! In this global economy, sometimes the items we buy can have as much of an emissions impact as we do personally. Significant energy is used in transporting items made in China or food grown in Chile, for instance. Supporting local farmers and business owners can limit the hidden environmental impact of our daily purchases.
  • Every Saturday from 7 AM to 12 Noon a farmers market is held in downtown Sarasota on Lemon Avenue from First Street to Pineapple Avenue. Local produce is also available through Jessica’s Organic Farm off N. Lockwood Ridge and through the Whole Foods Sunday farmers market.
  • Purchase a share in a local farm and receive fresh locally grown vegetables weekly. Worden Farm is a 55-acre organic farm in Punta Gorda that sells produce at the Sarasota Saturday farmers market. Shares are available seasonally as a Community Supported Agriculture system.
